JogStats ("we") makes the JogStats app and jogstats.com. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. Questions: support@jogstats.com.
What we collect
- Account: your email address, account ID, the name you choose and your date of birth for the age check. You can sign in with an email code or Google. Google sign-in gives us your Google account identifier and basic profile information; we do not receive your Google password.
- Activities and location: the GPS points of runs and walks you record and upload, with their times. GPS recording starts when you start an activity and stops when you finish. If you ask us to suggest your city, we also use the location you provide for that request.
- Imported workouts (optional): when you choose to import from Health Connect or a GPX file, we receive the selected workouts, including their routes, steps and heart-rate samples when available. Health Connect access is read-only.
- Settings: your units, country and time zone.
- Profile photo (optional): if you add one, we turn it upright, crop it to a 512 px square and save a new copy. Everything else in the file (camera details, the place it was taken, GPS) is removed and never stored.
- Hidden areas (optional): up to two "Hide my home area" circles you place on the map.
- Community: clubs you create or join, group runs you sign up for, and the zones you own.
- Search: people and club searches are sent to our server to find matching results. Basic request logs may include these queries.
- Technical: your IP address and basic request logs, kept briefly to keep the service secure and stop abuse.
- Alerts: if you allow notifications, a device token for this phone, so we can tell you when someone takes your zones. The alert names who took them and how many. It does not include your route.
- Usage stats (you can switch them off): simple counts of what you do in the app, like opening it, starting or saving a run (its type, distance and time), opening or sharing a card, sending a squad invite, messaging the coach, viewing the Pro page or starting a purchase, and finishing the first-run quiz, with your app version and platform (Android, iPhone or web). Never your routes, location, messages or anything you type. Switch them off in Me → Settings → Share usage stats; that also deletes what we already collected.
- Crash reports: when the app crashes, a technical report (what went wrong, the app version, the phone model, system version and an installation identifier) goes to Firebase Crashlytics. It does not include your routes or messages.
Why we use it
- To run the app: measure your activities, claim zones, show your history, stats, streaks and buddy.
- To keep it fair: we check activities for signs of fake GPS. Flagged activities don't claim zones.
- To keep it secure, prevent abuse and fix problems (crash reports).
- To improve the app: usage stats show us, in totals, which features help people keep running. They are our own; we don't use analytics or advertising companies for them.
- To email you sign-in codes and important service messages. We don't sell your data or send marketing without asking.
What other people can see
- Zones you own show your first name on the map and on area and distance leaderboards.
- Clubs you join can see you are a member.
- If you share an activity, anyone with the link sees your first name, distance, time, pace and route. The first and last 200 m of the route are always hidden, so your home and workplace aren't shown.
- Hide my home area: in Me → Privacy you can hide up to two areas (200, 400 or 800 m around a point you choose). Other people never see the parts of your routes inside them, on shared links or anywhere else in JogStats, and zones there show "Hidden runner" instead of your name. We hide a slightly bigger circle, moved a little off your point, so your exact spot can't be worked out. You still see everything yourself.
- Your profile photo, if you add one, shows next to your first name wherever people see you in the app. Moderators can remove a photo that breaks our rules.
- Your email address and exact start and finish points are never shown to other people.
- A change of zone owner is hidden from other people for a short time (15 minutes unless we set a different delay). You still see your own zones straight away.
Who helps us
We use a few providers to run JogStats. They only get what they need to do their job:
- Cloud hosting and databases for our servers.
- Private cloud object storage stores profile photos (the cleaned 512 px copy only).
- An email delivery service to send sign-in codes.
- OpenFreeMap, which serves map tiles. Your phone downloads tiles for the area on screen.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) sends zone alerts to your phone. We send the alert text and your device token, not your route or your location.
- Firebase Crashlytics (Google) receives crash reports from the app.
- If you use the AI coach, Anthropic (the Claude API) receives the message you typed, the coach's reply, and a short summary of your recent training: first name, units, streak, distances and your current plan. It does not receive your email address, your GPS track or the start and end of a route.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account exists. When you delete your account, your profile, profile photo, hidden areas, activities, GPS tracks, zones, club memberships, sign-ups, notifications, device tokens, coach messages and training-plan progress are deleted. Backups that might still contain them are overwritten within 30 days. Usage stats are deleted after 180 days, sooner if you switch them off or delete your account.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can:
- See and download your data: in the app, Me → Settings → Download my data. It gives you everything in one file.
- Correct it: edit your name, units, country and time zone in Me, or delete single activities.
- Delete it: Me → Settings → Delete account. See Delete your account.
- Ask questions or complain: email us. If you are in the EU or UK, you can also contact your data protection authority.
We process your data to provide the service you asked for (contract), and to keep it safe and fair and to improve it with usage stats and crash reports (legitimate interests; you can switch usage stats off).
Children
JogStats is not for children under 13, or under 16 in the EU and UK. If you believe a child has an account, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
