Most running apps show you a line on a map. JogStats turns that line into territory.
Your city in hexagons
JogStats covers every city in small hexagons, each about the size of a few blocks. When you run or walk through a hexagon, you claim it. The more streets you cover, the bigger your territory grows.
Taking and defending zones
Other people can take your zones by covering them on their own runs. To keep a zone, go back and run through it again. A freshly claimed zone is protected for a short time, so nobody can steal it the moment you get home.
This makes repeat routes fun again. Your usual park loop is no longer boring: it is your home turf to defend.
Fair play
Territory only counts when it is earned on foot. JogStats checks every activity on the server:
- Distance and time are measured from the GPS points, not taken from the phone.
- Activities that are too fast for running or walking are flagged.
- Fake location apps and big GPS jumps are flagged too.
Flagged activities still appear in your history, but they don't claim zones.
Your privacy
Your exact start and finish points are never shown to other people. That way your home and your work stay private, even when your zones are public.
